Master studies at the IKFF

The IKFF offers lectures and related internships for various Master's programs.

At the moment all our lectures and examinations are held in German.

In the study courses Mechanical Engineering M. Sc., Mechanical Engineering / Microtechnology, Device Technology and Technical Optics M. Sc., Medical Technology M. Sc. as well as in other Master's study courses, the IKFF offers the specialization subject Precision Engineering, compulsory modules, and supplementary subjects.
The specialization subject Precision Engineering will be formed from the core subjects

  • Device design and manufacturing in precision engineering
  • Actuators in device technology;
construction, calculation and application of mechatronic components
  • Practice of injection molding in equipment technology;
    Process, process chain, simulation

and optionally supplemented by various supplementary subjects.

This lecture can be chosen as a core or supplementary subject in different specialization subjects and also within a competence field in different Bachelor’s degree programs.
The module deals with the fundamentals of the development and construction of precision engineering systems and devices and emphasizes the close connection between structual design and associated manufacturing technology.
The focus is on the following topics:

  • Methodology of device development, methodical approaches to creative solution finding

  • Accuracy and error behavior in devices, precision device technology
    (requirements and
construction of precise devices and machines)

  • Tolerance calculation, tolerance analysis

  • Reliability and safety of equipment
(construction in accordance with reliability and safety requirements)

  • Relationships between the device and the environment

  • Vibration damping and noise reduction in the device technology

  • Thermal situation in devices

The lecture, including exercises with 6 ECTS, is offered every year in the winter semester.
The teaching materials can be found in
ILIAS .

This lecture can be chosen as a core and supplementary subject in various specialization subjects.
The module highlights selected aspects of the development and construction of mechatronic systems in precision engineering. The module deals with precision engineering drive systems of various operating principles.
The focus is on:

  • Magnetic technology as a basis
    (materials, processes, constructive design, magnetization)

  • Electromagnetic drives
(rotary and linear stepper motors, calculation, design, application)

  • Electrodynamic drives
    (rotary and linear DC
    micromotors, calculation, design, application)

  • Piezoelectric, magnetostrictive and other unconventional actuators
(new materials in mechatronic components, calculation, design, application)

  • Examples for the realization of mechatronic solutions in precision engineering

The lecture, including exercises with 6 ECTS, will be offered divided into the winter and summer semester. It can be started both in winter and in summer.
The teaching materials can be found in
ILIAS .

This lecture can be chosen as a core and supplementary subject in various specialization subjects.
The focus of this module are the topics:

  • Polymer materials

  • Characteristic properties

  • Processing methods

  • Processing method of injection molding

  • Construction of injection molding tools

  • Injection molding construction

  • Rheological design of part and tool

  • Plastic injection molding in micro- and device technology, special processes

  • Process chain - from design to the manufacturing process

  • Calculation and simulation of the injection molding process

The handling of the simulation software Moldflow and the operation of an injection molding machine are covered in integrated exercises and practical courses.

The lecture, including exercises with 6 ECTS, will be offered in the summer semester.
The teaching materials can be found in
ILIAS .

This lecture can be chosen as a supplementary subject in the specialization field of precision engineering.

The lecture deals with the methods and possibilities of simulation using the finite element method. Starting from the basics, the application of the programs ANSYS and Maxwell will be shown by practical examples in the lectures and exercises.

The lecture, including exercises with 3 ECTS, will be offered in the first half of the summer semester as a block course
The teaching materials can be found in
ILIAS .

Various institutes and lecturers offer subjects that can be chosen as supplementary subjects in the specialization field of precision engineering.
